Cincinnati Bell Staff Accountant - Fixed Assets in Cincinnati, Ohio

Position : Staff Accountant - Fixed Assets

Location : Cincinnati, OH

Job Purpose :

This position is responsible for the overall coordination of asset management and non-revenue related transactions for the company. This person must possess a comprehensive understanding of property and cost accounting, inventory, capital and expense procedures, and the reconciling and balancing of accounts. This position will be expected to gain an understanding of telecom accounting requirements and keep abreast of industry and regulatory issues of interest to the company. Will also perform and manage internal control responsibilities for Sarbanes-Oxley compliance purposes.

Essential Functions :

  • Coordinates and monitors monthly closing process to ensure all reporting requirements are met. This consists of controlling, balancing, and monitoring all system inputs, scheduling, and releasing program runs, and producing mechanized files and reports and meeting critical deadlines. This includes the preparation of mechanized and manual journal entries for the Fixed Asset System and the General Ledger. (30%)

  • System Administrator for DOPAC, BAV, LCOP, CPR, and VRUC which make up the Fixed Asset System. This includes end-to-end responsibility of maintaining and updating system tables, databases, interfaces, system documentation and the distribution of information related to fixed asset management. (10%)

  • Assist with the development of system requirements for enhancements and essential business changes and overseeing necessary testing and implementation to continually maintain, improve, and eventually replace portions of the Fixed Asset System and processes. (10%)

  • Works with product and project teams to determine proper accounting and tracking for new products, services, and entities. This includes identifying and researching the accounting and regulatory impact, and the planning and directing of necessary accounting processes and system changes. (5%)

  • Proper recording, tracking and maintaining of all capital project costs and expense activity through the Fixed Asset System. (5%)

  • Providing subject matter expertise on all property and cost issues. (5%)

  • Overseeing the daily DOPAC error correction process and corrective action. Assisting other groups with error correction resolution. (5%)

  • Responsible for the supervision of the development of retirement unit cost for outside plant assets, monthly exempt material rates, provisioning expense rates, and motor vehicle rates applicable to material and labor processing. Analyzes material disbursement prices for reasonableness. (5%)

  • Coordinates inventory and asset management tracking efforts throughout the Company and ensures the integrity of the physical inventory process. This includes reconciling to the General Ledger, analyzing all activity processed in the Fixed Asset System, reviewing inventory instructions and procedures, interpreting engineering drawings and records for accuracy and completeness of material usage from inventory and the transfer and retirement of assets. (20%)

  • Ensures adequate accounting controls are in place for Sarbanes Oxley compliance relating to asset management. Provide asset and inventory documentation for auditors and governmental authorities. (5%)

Education :

Four years of College resulting in a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent.

Degree in Accounting advantageous

Relevant Work Experience :

  • 0 to 2 years in related field

  • Previous experience in property and cost accounting advantageous

  • Demonstrated work experience in accounting or auditing advantageous

Special Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

  • Requires familiarity with GAAP Guidelines

  • Ability to recognize deficiencies in methods and procedures, and then develop and implement improvements

  • Strong analytical skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks and shifting priorities in a team environment

  • Strong written and oral communication skills are required to interact with other departments and external parties

  • Computer and system application proficiency including MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access. Mainframe oriented system advantageous.

Supervisory Responsibility :

This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities

Work Environment :

Hybrid. Requires 3 days in the office and 2 days remote on average.
